About the Division
Food Chemistry and Nutrition Research Division (FCNRD) is 1 of the 3 technical divisions at CSIR-FRI. The division continues to offer analytical services to clients who have brought their samples for analysis. FCNRD conduct research and collaborate with Universities, sister Institutions and other divisions within CSIR-FRI. The division have three sections: Chemistry Mycotoxon/Accreditation, Chemistry Analytical Services, and Nutrition Research.
Divisional Goal
To generate and disseminate scientific knowledge and technology as well as provide technical, analytical, training and consultancy services in the area of food chemistry and nutrition, to meet the demands of stakeholders.
Divisional Objectives
Objective 1
Develop and implement a system for identifying and resolving at least 1 researchable industrial constraint each year.
Objective 4
Develop and implement a system for coordinating and monitoring all on-going research and development projects
Objective 7
Ensure that the best quality management practices are adhered to in all the technical divisions
Objective 2
Drive the publication of at least 4 scientific research papers each year in credible scientific journals
Objective 5
Deliver Consultancy/Training services to meet clients' demands as per CID market development targets
Objective 3
Develop, implement and coordinate a system for attracting at least one donor-funded research project each year
Objective 6
Facilitate the provision of technical services and production of tangible research by-products to meet clients' demands as per CID market development targets
Divisional Research & Other Activities
- Food Fortification Research Portfolio Development (2FAS): Integrated strategies for micronutrient Deficiency reduction
- GC-Fermented Food funded by Bill & Melinda Gate foundation
- Pesticides residues in fresh tomatoes- funded by CABI international, Africa
- GC-Fermented Food project: Test running of production equipment, initial production of Soymilk-Burkina, and a baseline sampling (initial sampling size of 40 participants).
- Pesticides residues in fresh tomatoes, sample collection has been done waiting for GC analysis.
- Healthy Food Africa's nutrition team undertook a 3-week data collection in ADA west and Ada east districts, greater Accra.
- The Division is currently involved with research into a lesser-known cola species that grows wide in the forest regions for possible use for biofuel.
